Student Work
I love teaching! 8 years ago, I returned to teaching after being a production potter for many years. In 2014 I restarted the clay program and taught clay at Cleveland State in Cleveland, Tennessee. I taught hand building and throwing there through 2016. Beginning in 2016, I taught both clay and drawing at Pellissippi State in Knoxville. I also taught online Art History for Pellissippi (while living in Louisville, Ky.) "Pre-covid", while living in Louisville, I also taught clay
classes at Tonya Johnson's studio - Payne Street Pottery- in Crescent Hill. Previously I also taught clay throwing and reed handle making for clay workshops at the Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris, Tennessee. Currently I am back in Knoxville and teach clay classes in Oak Ridge at The Oak Ridge Art Center in Oak Ridge, TN. I have also mentored several post-bac apprentices over the past several years. They have gone on to do clay residencies and work on graduate degrees at various institutions around the country. The clay studio is like a big family wherever you go. As a teacher, I enjoy getting to know, mentor, and help my students and apprentices find their artistic voices. They are the future of our medium and our world. They have no fear and I love that they are willing to try anything! My students always amaze and inspire me! I am so grateful to be able to share my excitement about clay with them and to help them embark on their own creative journeys!
